How did GoldenrodPress rate Manchester City’s players after a difficult night in Lisbon?
Ederson: 6
Error for the third goal however made a number of key saves & interceptions at 1-0 to keep City in the tie.
Kyle Walker: 5
Ineffectual going forward, once again caught napping from a counter attack for the first goal, needed to stay with Cornet.
Fernandinho: 5
Comfortable as always in possession, out of possession abysmal. Continues to look completely out of depth in defence.
Eric Garcia: 7
Didn’t put a foot wrong all game. Always looking to move the ball forward, unlucky his excellent challenge didn’t prevent the first goal.
Aymeric Laporte – 7
Similar game to Garcia, let down by a dodgy VAR decision for the second goal.
João Cancelo – 4
Nowhere to be seen for the second goal, leaving Laporte 1v2 against Lyon forwards and slow to react to Ederson’s spill. Wayward crosses & no bite to his tackles. Looked out of position again.
İlkay Gündoğan – 3
Fail to see what his role in the team is meant to be. Doesn’t run. Doesn’t tackle. Doesn’t pass forward. Anonymous.
Rodri – 6
Tidy, won his personal duels and attempted to move the ball forward – suffered from a lack of support around him in midfield
Kevin De Bruyne – 8
Did his upmost to drag City through this tie, excellent passing to create chances and a cool finish to bring us level. Surely next season’s captain outright.
Gabriel Jesus – 6
Worked hard but no service. Stifled by a well organised back five.
Raheem Sterling – 7
Yes, he missed a sitter, but looked most likely (other than KDB) to make something happen. Everything good about our attacking play went through him.
Riyad Mahrez – 5
Important substitution to change the system to how we should’ve started but too one dimensional to be effective.
David Silva – Too late to mark
Such a shame to see his City career end on that note.
Very true comments. Just wasn’t the City we’ve come to know. Pity. Roll on next season start all over again.
